Hello - I'm an IT consultant relatively new to Mac but moving that direction (as are my clients). One thing I've really wanted to do is get a remote control tool like gotoassist.com to remotely support my clients. The problem is there kinds of services are not only expensive but I don't think they're Mac friendly. Any suggestions?

There's no web-based remote control, like gotomypc.com (AFAIK).
You pretty much have 3 options.

Apple Remote Desktop: http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/
VNC : http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/
Timbuktu : http://www.netopia.com/software/products/tb2/

The nice thing with Timbuktu is that it's fully cross platform. But it's pricey.
ARD is pricey and great with the Mac. It has a built-in VNC client to connect to PCs with a VNC server running.
The VNC link is to a VNC client for the Mac. Macs have VNC servers built-in, as part of the "Remote Desktop" option in the Sharing prefpane.

Nothing that requires me to pre-install software on the client will really work for a variety of reasons.

These guys say they work with Mac

Anyone try?

For starters, I automatically discount any company that calls a Mac, a MAC.

That group is based is the UK, don't know what kinda international tech support they offer if you're overseas.

They still require a remote installation of a client, though the only mention of tech specs that I see are for Windows 2k. Pretty vague.

what are you trying to do? mac has a freebsd kernel, you can enable ssh which will give you shell access.

there is always webex which i use it often to troubleshoot remote sites with local administrators. They have a mac client, not sure how good it is though. There isn't a client to install, it all done through the web browser and it is pretty easy to talk to a non-technie to surf to webex and start a session.

Great info. So Webex and Inqueiro are my options. Anyone have experience with their Mac clients?
