Here is my dilemma:

I owned a mac mini from 09, had 1.83 core 2 duo processor, 1gb ram, 2mb l2 frontside bus speed 667mhz. It was very very slow, would take a few seconds to open new internet browser, even when i went to type at first it was delayed at times etc...

I eventually had enough and upgraded to new mac mini: 2.4 core 2 duo processor, 4gb ram, 3mb lt frontside bus speed 1066mhz. Night and day difference. Absolutely love it. Exactly what i need for every day use of browers, msoffice, itunes, iphoto, etc.

So now i am about to buy new macbook air. Have been waiting years for 11-12 inch one to come out again. But cant decide on which one to get. I am for sure going with 11.6 inch one, but cant decide on specs. My income for this is limited.

From research out there, seems that i will for sure do 4 gb ram, and i think the gpu being at 3 mb l2 with front speed of 800 mhz will be comparable to the newer mac mini i bought, but have questions on processor. I have one ordered right now with the 1.4 ghz processor and upgraded to 4 gb ram, should i cancel and go with 1.6 and 4gb ram? is it worth to me the extra 200+ dollars to do so?

Basically im looking for someone to chime in that knows techincal stuff a bit more than i do on the processors and having SSD vs HDD. Essentially if i get this new air and it is comparable to my old mac min in terms of speed and lag, etc then i def will not hesitate to pay extra to get 1.6. But i dont want to dish out the extra if i dont have to.

Any insight would be great. Thanks.

Whenever I'm deciding on buying something and I'm not sure if I will need it or not. I say this to myself.

I would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

Hope that helps.

True, i get that, but i guess i dont need the best speed in the world. Just wanting opinions if the 1.4 ghz processor having added the SSD will act comparable to the 2.4 that came with my newer mac mini or more like the 1.8 that came with the older 09 model.

You're not going to see any lag in typing or opening web browsers with the new Air. I don't know what was wrong with your old mini but I never saw such problems on mine.

For heavy lifting tasks such as video encoding, ripping CDs, you might notice a slight increase with the 1.6 Ghz vs. 1.4. But for most uses, no difference.
