Tell me why I would want a imac over a PC?

Hello again,
Finally the mother of all questions. Can someone play salesman and tell me why I would want to buy a imac over a PC if I need a computer. I would be using it for email, internet surfing, research, and alot of video editing work as I love doing home movies and editing them on computers but lately I have been getting a lot of lock ups on my pc and that is driving me crazy. I need to convince my wife as she wants to hear it from others not just from me.

So go for it, tell me why imac would be a better choice?

1) OSX - No need to worry about viruses
2) iLife - great software for handling movie creation, photo storage, and DVD creating.

I'm sure there are more, but that's a good start.

You have much more flexibility with a normal PC compared to an iMac, but video editing is so easy with imovie for the basic no brain.

If I were you, I would wait 6 days until the next Apple conference, where it is quite likely they will update the iMacs (possibly with a whole new design)

Right now:
It looks sleek
It includes a camera and mic (useful, and not included in many PCs)
No viruses
iMovie is included (The best home movie editor there is) along with the rest of iLife
Built in wireless etc
OSX is nicer in my opinion

iMovie is great for making videos. iDVD is good at turning those videos into DVDs. iPhoto for all your still photographic needs. Several browsers for surfing the net are available and the standard one that comes with the iMac, Safari, is pretty good. You won't get viruses or spyware like the PC. Most of the time, things just work. On a physical level, the iMac looks great and is very quiet.

That is so funny, that is exactly how my PC sounds, it has like 5 fans plus the power supply fan and it is so noisy just like how you said a wind tunnel.

Having an all-in-one has drawbacks (it is difficult to upgrade) but having ONE CABLE (power supply) is awesome...

You guys are great. What great feedback, my wife is nearly convinced. She is hard to convert over but she is nearly there. I will wait until end of the month to see what the new imacs has to offer and maybe that will tip her in the right direction. What do you think? Thanks for all the replies and keep them coming.

Actually runs XP better than most PC's as there are no driver conflicts. I boot into XP to play Vanguard and Everquest 2 all the time.

take a picture of the PC you want to buy.
take a picture of the iMac.
put them next to each other.

if you still side with the PC after that. then go ahead and read the posts.

I think the best part of owning a mac is Applecare. If anything goes wrong with your system, you can bring it into someone who actually knows something about mac's. Apple Geniuses go through several weeks of training in California at a training camp. Versus taking your computer to a high school drop out who works for the Geek Squad.

Plus, if you bought applecare when you get your system, if anything goes wrong, they will replace the defective part for free! Or repair your operating system for free! I got about $3,000 worth of parts for my G4 Tower, for free, because I made the $300 investment in applecare.

Also, Apple offers some free training classes at apple stores. They do also offer one on one training for complicated applications.

I'm also looking into getting one, and so far ive heard that:

Slim factor
Virus free
Great creative programs
Isight
Good service
And many more that i cant think of off of the top of my head.

I'm convinced!

Anyways, the big selling point for me is that:

Imac = good for creative people

PC = good for................ gaming?

if you eventually needed a pc (cuz you mention that in ure description), you could get an imac, then get bootcamp/parallels (just what that other guy said) to run windows. no need to get 2 pcs

Because they're nice and speedy, and they also make excellent PCs, due to them using high-end and good components, with good drivers.

Because you only *real* decision you have to make is what size screen to get, everything else you need is included.


Go visit dell and try to select a PC...there is such a thing as too much choice.

It is somewhat; it provides a word processor and a presentation package which beats Power Point, imo. It doesn't provide a spreadsheet program...yet.
