Hi all, recently I ran into the usual GPU problem with my 21.5” iMac so I proceeded to bake it and thermal paste the sucker. I took out the Optical Drive to have more airway for the fan.
My first boot up was fine except the fan went into overdrive. Did some Googling put the temperature sensor that was originally attached to the Optical Drive back in the iMac but have it on the iMac shell where the Optical Drive was.
Started it up and everything went smooth, no fan noise. Nothing. Although I’m a little worried.
Has anyone done this? Has anyone removed the Optical Drive completely, if so where do you paste the sensor? Is it bad practice?
Thanks!
