I've been using my iMac long enough now at this point to notice that it runs significantly cooler with Vista in Boot Camp than with OS X. I don't have a temperature monitor thingy installed on the Windows side, but it's obvious from touching it...it gets warmish at most with Windows, and hot with OS X. I just thought that was weird. Have any of you noticed any temperature differences in Windows vs. OS X?

Yes, my temps in Vista were consistently 10 degrees C hotter than in OS X. Since I switched to Windows XP my temperatures have remained pretty close to OS X. This is on an MBP.

i use a macbook and contrary to your post, it runs hotter bot when charging and on battery when on vista, tested in power saving, balanced and performance on both os's.

subjectively, my mbp runs much hotter in bootcamp than in os x. is there a way to check the temp in xp / bootcamp to verify what my lap is feeling?

I don't know about that, but I do know if you run SMCFanControl and increase your fan speeds a bit (about 1000 rpm per fan on an imac should do it) and then restart your computer into windows, it will stay cooler.

Hope that helps.

So maybe hotter on laptops, cooler on desktops under Vista?

Or maybe not? :)
