The Sports Widget shows on my Lock Screen when there are games I might be interested in, and I like the idea, though I do not want it to potentially always eat my battery. I try quitting it, though I can not figure out how to do it. I go into the Sports App and swipe it up though the Widget still displays on the Lock Screen. Do I need to turn off the widget from settings to temporarily turn off the widget each time I want it to stop displaying?

When the Sports widget is active on your lock screen, swipe from right to left on the widget and you should see a "clear" option. That will kill the widget. I would also suggest going into the Sports app and looking the "Your Teams" section and seeing if any of them have automatic live activities enabled.
