hey, i am asking if there is a terminal command or somthing to mount an external HD. I am asking because whe i plug my external HD in, sometimes it takes a very long time to actually come up on my desktop(or i just turn it off and on untill it comes up which i know is very bad of me   ) . i check the USB bus information in the system profiler and the HD is listed there so i know its not a problem with the cord.

any help would be great, ty

You can mount a drive with the mount command. Drives mounted this way sometimes fail to show up on the Desktop at all! Note that the delay you are noticing is probably the drive being mounted and checked. It's normal.

I know, it would not bother me if i was waiting 2 mins each time. however i have left it for half an hour several times and got nothing, while other times it comes up right away.

and yeah i checked disk utility, it comes up there...

If you think the drive is mounted (sounds like it is as it's showing in Disk Utility) you might be able to open a finder window to it faster.

Open the Terminal and type:
Code:
cd /Volumes
ls -l

If you can see the name of the drive/partition you want just type
Code:
open <name>
