I purchased New silicon MacBook Pro. and yes I like to do clean installs. but when in recovery if say I go to terminal and I want to wipe the HD with common diskutil secureErase 0 /dev/diskxx. I get a error telling me I am not allowed. is there some kind of protection now on the new MacBooks ? yes I know I can just use the utility but I am wondering why this is. I can't seem to figure it out

Be careful. There are many reports of users trying to do a clean install who bricked their new M1’s in the process.
