Terrible battery life after 2.2 update

hello everybody

Since updating to the 2.2 firmware, my iphone just gets terrible battery life. Before the update I used to get like 3 hours usage, 12 hours standby and still have the battery be almost full. Now I use it the same amount and my battery is almost gone. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Have u tried restarting at all, i know it sounds lame, but for some reason it fixes alot of problems you wouldnt expect.

I have a touch, and i DID get terrible battery, it even drained when sleeping. I restarted it and turned off location services (which i doubt you want to do) and now im more or less back to normal.

My battery life is still great, no noticeable change since I upgraded to 2.2.

Maybe do a restore on your iPhone and see if that helps?

Cannot agree. My battery life is, if anything, better than it was. Ever.

Wifi always on, 3G always on, location always on. Email is Exchange, Push is turned OFF. Email gets checked automatically every 30 minutes. Turning Push on is IMO the biggest battery killer.

Yep, battery life with 2.2 is TRULY AWFUL, but I can make it better.

1. With push e-mail and exchange, standby time WAS about 13-14 hours before the dreaded 20% warning appeared. Now with 2.2 it's about 3 to 4 hours. That's right - to last a working day, I need to charge the phone at least twice during the day!!!

2. Turn OFF push e-mail, and battery life is amazing. For example, today the phone has been on standby for 10 hours according to settings with WiFi, Bluetooth and LBS ON, including travelling through a mix of 2.5/3G areas. Battery icon still fully green i.e. 100%.

Definitely a push e-mail / GPRS / 3G problem.

There is also a problem with battery handling in 2.2. When I used to plug the phone in with, say, 10% charge and a red battery icon, the screen would show a large battery symbol with a 10% bar (in red) for a while before increasing to 20 (red), 30 (green), etc.

NOW - with 2.2, if I plug in at 10%, the big battery on the screen shows as 50% instantly. That cannot be right...

To me that sounds like your having some wierd glitch happening. I'd try restoring, seeing as you seem to be in the minority with this problem.

The same thing happened to me but after about a week the battery was back to normal. I don't think there was one thing that I did to make it go back to normal, it was kinda mysterious to me. I would just try restoring, restarting, that sort of thing

Tried that in order to try to fix the other problem (if I turn the phone off, when I turn it on again it says 'connect to iTunes' and only allows emergency calls. If I turn off and on again it pops up 'iPhone is activated' and it's fine. Not every time, but fairly often).

Unfortunately, restoring fixed neither problem, and the restoration process seems to take several hours with incessant '-xyz' errors in iTunes.

Keeping push e-mail OFF for now is no great problem, having owned just about every smartphone ever produced I still think the iPhone is the most advanced / slickest / well thought out phone I've ever had / used. You expect a few bugs / issues in something of this complexity.
