I bought my first mac an imac 24 inch three months ago. It was the biggest mistake of my life. I always used Microsoft Windows computer with no major problems before.

My experience with Mac was that after first month the hard drive had to be replaced and after 3 months the computer died and apple had to replace it as they could not get the computer started although my data was still in the hard drive.

The service from apple Australia was very poor and completely unsatisfactory. I am very familiarwith the phrase: "It is not Mac's problem but a third part issue"

I think apple does not have any proper customer care . May be upto noew their product was so good they did not think they needed customer care. But my experience with this i-mac has been quite the opposite. It is not the fact that the product was faulty but how Apple dealt with the problem was the problem. Faulty products haoppen every now and then to the best of products but how you deal with it is what makes customers happy.

I have my new i-mac now and hate it. My next computer will be awindows one for sure. I have my sensitive documents and files in my old windows computer as I can not trust an Apple.

Apple is just good fopr photos videos and music.

If you thinking of changing from Microsoft to Apple think again why change something that works and you are happy with?

Goodluck

I'm sorry to hear that you are not having a good experience so far with your Mac. But Apple DOES have the most reliable computers, only Sony is close to them in reliability. Give Apple another chance and I'm sure that you will have a better experience. I've had 7 Macs and an Apple ][e from the early 80s and all of them still work flawlessly, even the Apple ][e.

Because i'm tierd of windows?, i want a sleek computer and nicely designed computer, i want a silent computer, i want a nice OS. -> But sa said before, i understand that some people are happy with windows.

The support sucks, but so does em all ;), i've worked at a callcenter (And it's not very orginazied), I can understand that it is hard for company's getting a good support not spendning xxxxx millions day :p

I have been using Macs and PCs for 20 years, and I definitely prefer the Mac. Just bought the top of the line iMac, with iWork and CS3 Master Collection, and there is little I cannot do with that machine.

I basically have kept a PC in the house to stay compatible with the PC world, but with VM Ware and such, I am about to get rid of that machine as well.

At work I have both a PC and an iMac (the white version).

Just because you got a lemon from Apple does not indict the company. Any bag of apples will have one bad one, and I am sorry it happened to you. But most people have not had your experience.

I have used everything from a Mac Classic to a MacPro, with a dozen macs inbetween. They rock for everything I do, which includes graphic design, writing and editing, video and web design, and general goofing off. I am not a gamer, so I cannot speak to that.

By that rationale, if you bought a Porsche and it had problems and you had a hard time getting them to fix it and for some reason you had to replace the car would you still not trust it to get you where you needed to go, and quite fast, or would you vow to just buy a Renault next time because that is what you are used to even though everyone knows they are much more problem prone than Porsches.

Since I bought my iMac G5, 3 years ago. I had to replace the hard drive a couple of times. Actually found out, didn't really have to just had to whip out the disk for it to work LOL. Plus a couple months ago, some how my memory got corrupted  They said I had a different brand in. Which doesn't make sense, if it wasn't the right type of memory, i for sure would of had this problem 3 years ago, and not 2-3 months ago.

So sorry that your experience has been bad.

It's unfortunate when a person gets some new tech and it's a dud, but doubly bad when customer support is not what it should be. Has the replacement iMac that you received been working ok? Was apple able to retrieve your data from the bad one? If the new one seems to be working ok, please give it another chance. Start slowly on things you don't care about as much and as time passes, do more with it. I think if you do this, you will start to remember why you decided to switch to Mac in the first place. However, remember to make back-up of all important information and documents stored on your computer. Back-ups are one of the most important things you can do on any platform. I really hope you will take my advice.

Wow, it seems like even your keyboard is broken! :D

Yes that is the other problem. The wireless key board on this replacement machine does not work some times and the wireless mouse slows down and I have to restart the computer to slove these problems.

First, the reason why you should make backups is because these things can happen. With everything backed up on a DVD, you wouldn't have lost any data.

Just curious: What reason was there to claim that it is not a Mac problem but "a third party issue"?

Thanks Marc

Apple told me the warranty only covers hard ware issues and retrieving or loss of data are not covered by warranty and wanted me pay for the data transfer howerver after many letters and complaints they asked me to supply their authorised repairer with an external hard drive to transfer the data as they had to receive the old computer before shiping and sending the new one to me.

A very poor service in deed from Apple that I would not dreamt in my wildest dream.

Thanks I had backed all my dat on an external hard drive.

The phrase above was whenever I compalint to apple about my computer problems they said it cannot be a hardware issue until eventualy the machine died and the Mac repairer could not get it restarted

I don't know of any computer company that would be willing to migrate data over (let alone for free)! If you honestly managed to get that, consider yourself a very very lucky person.

It seems to me that Apple bent over backwards to please you, I don't get why you're still bashing them? Did they send you back a 2nd lemon or something?

If that's been the worst mistake of your life then count yourself lucky and try to get some perspective :)

Sounds like you've been unlucky, but you should also have kept backups as I've never heard of a computer manufacturer who will take data retrieval/migration as part of their responsibility if some hardware fails.

I think you've been really unlucky! I have heard so many great customer experience stories on here! They'll almost bend over backwards for their customers as a rule, cos they know every thing they do right is another slap in the face to the competition!

I think if he's unhappy with his "old" Imac he should sell it on Ebay and buy a PC. I just bought a "new" Imac last week and I love it! I'm at work now typing this on a Windows machine, and owning a Mac is so refreshing.

The original post almost seems like someone who is looking to slam Apple. Anyone who is open minded and takes time to become familiar with OSX will appreciate the differences. It is so nice not worrying about viruses and spam, plus the stability of the system is so nice! I also love the hardware as well! My new 20" IMac is so much fun. I can hardly wait to get home every day to use it! I know...I'm a bit of a geek.

Because it's always someone else's fault when you loose your data. I don't care how reliable people say a computer is I always back-up my information, it is too valuable too loose.

What were the problems you were having with the computer? You mention that the hard drive failed and the computer "died." But this is not very descriptive. You said Apple said "It is not Mac's problem but a third part [sic]issue," what were the problems you were having? I highly doubt Apple would pass the blame to a "third party" unless it was actually a problem with a third party product.

It is possible to turn down the brightness. I have turned mine down a bit. It's done with your keyboard. It's very simple.

It's too bad you received an Apple computer with a faulty hard drive - but this problem is not specifically related to any particular computer brand. This problem would have happened on any computer the hard drive was installed into, be it an Apple, HP, Sony or Dell.

This was what perhaps Apples customer service was hinting at. Hard drives fail sometimes, fact. If the hard disk failed within warranty, Apple should have replaced it for you.

Switching to PC will only put you back in the same situation again, only with another customer support team.

I can't see your point to say this is an Apple only fault
