So i am just starting to learn iOS development. downloaded the new version of Xcode(8.1). Noticed that the test devices are i pad pro 12" iPad pro 9" iPhone 7/7 plus iPhone se and iPhone 42. why is this? if down the line i wanna put my app on my iPhone 6 can i do this or is it not compatible?

Yes, you can test on your iPhone 6 or another device. Apple has some documentation explaining it.

You can also download more devices and OS versions for the simulator if you want. At the top of your Xcode window, where it displays the name of the current simulator device, click the device name and you'll get a pulldown menu with options to get more devices/OS versions.

It looks as if the listed test devices are there more for testing screen sizes than anything else.
