Test for YellowTint

I have the Samsung glossy screen and have been very pleased with it. I haven't noticed an obvious yellow tint, but sometimes possibly after reading these threads i feel like there may be a slight hue. Is there any way to test for the yellow tint? My eyes are getting tired of squinting to see if i can determine any color changes on a white screen.

Sorry, but why are you looking for a problem you can't see?

Yellow tint was a really bad and obvious issue for some people (I had the problem before I got a replacement).

If it isn't really really obvious (i.e. the grey loading screen at startup, there was yellow tint coming from the bottom left corner and it was noticable without moving your head).

I had no idea about this yellow tint thing until I came here. For a while I didn't mind until I noticed that when waking from sleep the screen would turn on and I'd see my background and all, and a moment later a yellow tint would wash over it. I thought it looked great right before it went back to the yellow, so I calibrated (using the extra options) and it's perfect now. I was fooling around in the color profiles the other day and went back to the old yellow tint profile and I cannot believe I thought it looked okay!

So bottom line is... if you notice it you notice it - and you can fix it. If you don't, then don't worry. So many issues are brought up by people here which you would never notice if you didn't read about them... it's kinda a shame actually

Two things to remember about the yellow tint:

1. If it is all over the screen then you just noticed the too warm default calibration Apple shipped with the MBP. Very easy to fix by just running the calibration utility and (IMHO) definetly worth the effort.

2. Some people see an yellow tint on parts of the screen (usually lower third) - if this is not purely related to view angle it's an issue that cannot be easily fixed.

My Samsung looks great after calibrating it - even though I got a stuck pixel (won't show red). Hardly notice the guy and couldn't care less

Here you go. Download the gray image, make it full screen (Slideshow mode if you opened the image in Preview), and look at each white square dead center. The bottom one should appear darker\duller\yellower than the top one. I used this to demonstrate the problem to two Geniuses when I returned my original SR MBP. Don't be discouraged if yours has the dreaded yellowing problem. Take it back. My new 2.2Ghz Glossy (LG screen) is great.

Can you ask for an exchange if you have a yellow tint even if its out of the 14day exchange policy but you have applecare? I can only see the yellow tint at an angle so it doesn't really bother me that much. Just curious

I believe that the tint at an angle is considered normal for the new displays. The issue people seem to be having is yellowing toward the bottom 1/3 of the display. If that's what you're experiencing and it bothers you, take it in and let Apple resolve it.

Yup! the yellowing from any angle is pretty much normal!! even my 15'' Siemens laptop with glossy screen have the same thing...
