Hi,

I'm new to the iPhone programming but need to get some information as part of scoping out a project quite quickly.

After you become enrolled as an iPhone developer (i.e. paid up your subscription fee), I understand you're then able to build your apps in XCode and test on a device.

The app I'm developing will need to be given to a team for beta testing prior to release. Is it relatively straightforward to sign apps for testing on multiple devices?

I've had a look at the story of iPhone dev here and it looks pretty involved to say the least!

thanks

In a nutshell, you get the UDID of each device that will be used for testing, add them to your dev portal, create an ad-hoc provisioning profile for the app with those devices, build, and distribute.

EVERYTHING about the app building process seems complicated the first time with all the certificates and profiles and stuff. Once you get it done once it's fairly simple.

And I wouldn't follow the steps on blogs like that, since it's half a year old. Some of the steps change slightly from time to time (like where in the portal to click on/do stuff). I'd just follow the instructions that are in the portal. And the Apple people will help you out if you run into problems. I had problems code signing my first app last year and they were very helpful in making sure I was doing everything right.

Thanks for the reply.

Looks like a similar process to getting handsets signed on the Symbian platform.
