Quick question, (apology if this is a repeat)
I have googled around doing my research before posting this but get extremely conflicting and over-thought postings and guides from sites across the internet, and I figure I might as well just get the information from here and get the information right.

I have a standard iPhone 3GS 16GB, non jailbroke, apple firmware.
I want to enable the Tethering option but have two concerns:
  1. Does enabling just the tether, not MMS, break Visual Voicemail?
  2. Have there been reported cases of ATT going after even the smallest tethering usage cases?
Assuming the answer to 1 is no and 2 as well, then what is the simplest way to enable just the tether option?

Thank you in advance for your time and responses.

Cheers.

Be careful. I used that site and my GPS stopped working. Tethering works beautifully though. Not sure why you're having problems. I just installed the profile, turned on the tethering switch, and as soon as I plugged it inti my MBP it turned blue and was connected. Very slick, but GPS wouldn't lock on. Had to remove profile, reset network settings, and reboot to get it back. Kind of a pain. Anyone else have that problem with using benm.at? That's the only one I've tried, so I'd like to try another sometime if anyone has suggestions.

Did you go to settings>General>Network?

Question; I can't pair my iPhone 3g to my Black Macbook for bluetooth tethering, anyone have the same problem/know why?

And my GPs is fine

i went to benm and downloaded the profile, and while the "enable tethering" option does show up....it doesn't actually.....work

the blue screen at the top of springboard never shows up after it's enabled, the computer DOES recognize it as a different hardware modem, but nothing after that....ive tried multiple computers and none of them are online after its enabled:confused:

Help.benm.at worked fine for me, tethering and MMS are both enabled, GPS works a treat. I figuire I'll stay on 3.0 for a while, even after 3.1 is released.

+1 ^^^ I'm in the same boat. Still giving some thought to that SMS Security fix coming out on Saturday. I guess I'll wait to see if it affects the JB or if Purplera1n will keep on ticking......:eek::eek:

-shrug-
My curiosity comes in the form of will anyone care enough to actually exploit that vulnerability before Apple gets a patch out? My guess would be no.

Same problem for me. on iPhone 3G & 3GS. No problems at first and then it stopped after removal and network settings reset. Seems to be 3.0.1 that does it for me.

My girlfriends 3G has no problems on 3.0

Currently posting this from a tethered iphone 3.0 firmware.. I was having trouble getting my phone to connect to me MBP via bluetooth even though it was paired and I thought this may help some of you .

It may seem like a bit of a dumb mistake to some of you but I didn't realize only one item could be connected via bluetooth at a time. I have the bluetooth mighty mouse. It wouldnt let me connect via bluetooth till that was disabled.

After the mightymouse was disconnected my iphone bluetooth immediately connected.

I'm using tethering with my iPhone 3G firmware 3.01,
and it works fine even GPS.

I've always used USB, and havent bothered with Bluetooth
as it drains the battery too much....

My tethering with benm hack involves using USB cable and selecting Ethernet; I've never been able to hookup via BT.....:eek::eek:

What am I doing wrong, I get the blue tethering screen on the iphone but my MBP wont connect to the internet. I am using bluetooth and should work as stated by apple. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3574.
OS 10.4.11. I have the green connection on my network settings under airport, but no internet connectivity from that port. "Ethernet Adaptor (en2) is currently active and has the IP address.......

I got it, had to choose iphone modem on MBP for location.

I'd like to go back to one of the original questions(which was asked about 2 months ago). Has anyone done this Benm method or another non-jailbreak tether and been charged for usage outside the normal bill? I know lots of sites who have people claiming it works, but it's not worth it if people go back and bill the hell out of me for it later. :D

TIA>

Hi fkntotalkaos,

Unfortunately, this tether function does not work with Tiger.
You have to have Leopard 10.5 or higher.
I am not sure it works with Snow Leopard, as i haven't tried this yet,
but i am 99% sure it will also work with Snow Leopard....
