So i have the carrier file installed and in the network settings i can see internet tethering options.. I can enable and disable it with no errors.. which i click enable it says that tethering is possible through USB or bluetooth..

So now what?

I have first successfully been able to pair my iphone with my computer. (MACBOOK PRO). so my iphone sees my computer and visa versa.. then what?

same with USB. I can connect my phone to the computer via USB and then turn on tethering.. but nothing

I go to NETWORK settings to see if there is an option to add the iphone as a network but there's nothing

So either I am missing a step or there is something wrong with my carrier file i guess. I got it at the help.benm.at

just another tidbit of into.. when i connect to my MBP from my iphone via bluetooth, it says i am connected to use it as a personal network.. But when i go look at my iphone's bluetooth devices, it shows my MBP as not connected..

whats the deal?

I never complained that ATT isnt supporting tethering correctly. i never complained that this wasnt working.. all i did was simply ASK what I might be doing wrong.

I would like to know why some people who are using the same carrier file as me have it working and I can not get it working.. I have a feeling it MIGHT have to do with my computer settings, but i'm not sure.

c'mon man! i was just asking, i was just as clueless as you were!, lol:D

and the other guy tried to help out too. lol

It can be anything. As long as a feature isn't officially supported, one guy getting it work doesn't mean the same setting works for you. It *should*, but you never know.

Man people are *******s. What tag does your LAN connection show. Mine goes to "Apple device." If you getting nothing then your computer isn't reading the connection. Also, do you get the blue "Internet Tethering" status bar on your iPhone?

leomac i wasnt talking to you..

And when i have the tethering enabled, there is no blue bar.. I know that on my MBP when I go to the connections, it SHOULD say the name of my iphone or Apple Mobil Phone or something like that - but I get NOTHING.. so its definitely not seeing it..

and now theres something even MORE amiss... When i plug my phone into my computer via the USB cable, its not seeing it - AT ALL.. so i think its my computer...

I tested the cable - it works.. i tested TWO iphones and neither are being seen on my computer (via itunes) but both phones work fine with the charger and other accessories

go to help.benm.at

download the correct mobile config > USA > ATt

turn on in settings > general > network > internet tethering

plug in and wait one minute for it to turn blue

tada

Plug it in via USB and tether that way. I have never been able to get the bluetooth working personally.

You need iTunes installed, I don't think it works without a recent version of it. When you first plug the phone in, your mac, should ask about a new 'network adapter'. This should bring you to the network pane. The iPhone should come up as a 'ethernet adaptor (en*)' the star represents a number.

And yes.. i have iTunes installed.. and yes, i had tried to connect it via the USB cable. it's still not seeing my iphone as a network.. that is why i am confused. i read all of the instructions and I have a good idea as to HOW it should work now, but its just not seeing it.

When I was messing with this a few months back, I found I had to click the bt icon in the top icon bar and there was an option to connect to pan or somthing like that. I clicked that and then I got the blue bar accross the top of the iPhone that indicated tethering was enabled. In every case USB or bt I had to initiate the tethering from the Mac side.

Sounds like when you first connected the iPhone 3G or 3G, you must have closed that box that comes up. To manually add it try going to

System Preferences > Network >the '+' symbol (Make sure the iPhone is plugged in via usb at this point) > It should be named 'Ethernet adaptor' > make sure you APPLY, otherwise it doesn't work.

Also make sure you install the carrier file multiple times, sometimes on my iPhone 3G, it would install but still not work, so I tried a couple times more with a reboot or two and that enabled tethering.
