Much as I'd prefer to use 3proxy+Terminal exclusively for tethering my iPhone 3G to my Mac running 10.5, I find I still have to go back to NetShare--which is slower and apparently more battery-intensive even when docked--for a few reasons:

  1. iTunes works under NetShare, can't seem to see 3proxy.
  2. Under 3proxy, Google Reader loads only the top portion of the page under Firefox (but works fine under Safari). Some other sites seem to fail to load under Firefox as well.

Is anyone else experiencing these issues with 3proxy? I've played around with Proxifier vs. the built-in Network settings, to no avail.

3proxy only seems to support traffic through port 80, so I can't use it either (I need some way to use Remote Desktop clients). That may also be why it doesn't work for iTunes.

Thanks for the info, I might experiment with the other SOCKS apps in Cydia to see if they do anything.

Thanks, that works great. Well, maybe "great" is too strong a word - it works, but the Edge speeds make it all but unusable. I'll try it again on a 3G network sometime soon.
