Text based games

Im looking for a text based computer game like the one Sheldon is playing in the Big Bang Theory season 4: The Irish Pub Formulation.

My first games were Command and Conquer Red Alert and Worms, so these text based games were before my gaming days, but sound awsome. If someone could point me in the direction of that game or decent ones similar I would be very grateful.

I would prefer to be able to download the game so I dont have to be online to play, but if its only online then thats ok.

Haven't seen the episode so I don't know exactly which game. Text adventures are more commonly called "interactive fiction" now and they are still popular in some circles.

You probably want a interpreter like Zoom: http://www.logicalshift.demon.co.uk/mac/zoom.html which also has links to get some games.

You might want to try some of the games from the latest IFC: http://www.ifcomp.org/
