I have a iphone 5 on ios 7.

I have a year long text conversation with another iphone (mostly imessage texts) that has numerous attachments (pics/videos of 1,000+). It is taking up too much space and I have already downloading the attachments and exported the conversation to pdf form.

However, I cannot delete the conversation! I delete it by swiping right on the conversation and hitting delete. It will disappear but text messages will be slow as heck. I cannot send any texts after that. So I restart the iphone and the text message shows back up!

Other things I have tried are the following (btw i have looked at the memory usage and it never changes thus the conversation isnt actually deleting):

1. delete all contents in the conversation but the conversation stays and is empty. same result

2. tried both ways and syncd to itunes. same result.

3. tried deleting text and having the other user send a text. the text is received but the conversation comes back after being restarted.

4. icloud has not been used as a backup. i simply use it as a email and music source, thus the 5gb is almost used up and never has been used as a backup. but i still turned it off as a backup just in case.

i have not tried to delete my icloud account tho (do not want email/music to disappear)

any ideas? the other person deleted their conversation and it worked like a charm. started a whole new conversation and the memory was cleared up (although it took a few minutes to show)

any help would be greatly appreciated

That's really weird. Have you tried restarting it by holding the home and sleep button at the same time until the apple logo appears? Try doing that then deleting the messages.

That's what I meant when I restarted it. I have tried hard rebooting it many times to no avail.

I don't get why it's not deleting. It's odd that it slows down the phone as well. Really slow and I cannot text anyone but can receive. Frustrating and want the space freed up

Well that really sucks. If you live near an Apple Store I think you should try to take it there. Maybe they can do something for you.

Edit: Your on ios 7. I know there are many reasons to update and to not upgrade. But if you update I think there is a small chance that will fix it.

the problem is there isnt enough room on the phone to download it.

and unfortunately ios 8 has sucked on my parents phone. they have had wifi problems up the yahoo.

any other ideas with the text not deleting. could it be somehow icloud? should i delete it and leave it over night to see if it needs to take that long to delete it?

Well your make sure your parents are on 8.1.1 there have been some wifi fixes.

I do think you should try and leave it over night. I don't think that will help but worth a try right? And it shouldn't be anything with iCloud.

You could try a restore. Just back up to iCloud then reset your phone to factory setting then restore it. And while your doing that it is possible to update to iOS 8 if you would like to. Basically after its wiped clean back to factory setting you skip the set up process update it wipe it again and then you can restore. But of course this will make your phone unusable for a while. But again you don't have too update to iOS 8.

I tried deleting it before bedtime and left it over night and still same result.
