Hi,

I have noticed along with others on Reddit that when you use eSIM, you lose the “Text Message Forwarding” option in Settings.

When you put back a physical SIM into the phone (does not matter if it is activated or not), the option comes back (even after you remove it).

However, when you restart the phone, you lose the menu option again.

Just wanted to see if other people knew about this problem? Surprised this has not been fixed yet.

I had noticed the option had gone missing but when I raised it with Apple, they said that it was a Carrier setting - which seemed unlikely given that the carrier had provided it before. My carrier, EE in the UK, denied any responsibility and when Apple did as well when I went back to them, I didn't get anywhere.

Unfortunately I don't have a spare nanoSIM any more to put in to test whether that brings it back. I'll need to see whether I can get one as I don't use my phone much at home, and not having my SMS on my iPad has been a serious pain for me.

Well I have it set up to forward all my messages to my other devices. Restarting my device without the nano sim does not change that. Just the option to toggle it one way or another is gone.

Great, I was able to borrow a SIM and set up the forwarding to my new iPad. Can confirm that I see the same behaviour on rebooting with no physical SIM. It is certainly a bug but delighted to have been told the workaround - many thanks!
