Iphone 5s running iOS8, MBP running Yosemite.

Long story short: Been using text message forwarding for months without issue. A few days ago i had issues with my iphone and i had to reset it and set up as new iphone as backups were corrupt. Facetime and iMessage are working fine however text forwarding isnt. My MBP never displays a code no matter how many times i sign in/out of icloud and/or imessage on both/either devices. Yes, i have my icloud checked. For a day and a half ive been trying to fix this to no avail and its driving me crazy. Help!

My experience is that text forwarding is quite inconsistent. Sometimes it works flawlessly, other times there is a delay in receiving messages, etc.

I had the same issue right after a restore of my iPhone 6. I tried a couple of hours later and got it to work. Some times it's a couple of hours, other times it can be a couple of days (happened to me with an iPhone 5).

Bottom line: be patient and keep trying, it will eventually work.
