As like most of you, I was iffy about just 200 standalone text messages when I first activated my account with iTunes, so I added extra text messages. There was $10 for 1500, and $20 for unlimited. I thought that was a little too much so I just went with the $10 for 1500

A few days ago I went to an AT&T store and asked them to breakdown my plan and tell me what I'm paying for. And then I noticed that in the brochure there was a cheaper option for text messages. For an extra $5, you can get an additional 200 AND get unlimited mobile-to-mobile texting. This was perfect! The unlimited M2M will surely make up for those that I text within AT&T. So I had them change it, plus add 7pm nights to my plan. I'm finally happy

If you don't use that much text, but want to make sure you don't go over, opt for this plan so that you can get a good amount of text, and you go to town with texting those within AT&T

Happy findings!

TXT messaging is still overpriced... It should be free.

It takes more data and TDMA slottage to get on Meebo to send and receive AIM or whatever it is I want to send.

Also. It shouldn't cost to RECEIVE txts, even if you ARE charged to send them...

What if I went online and spammed someone? Wouldn't that rack up their bills.

It costs a cell company next to nothing to send a TXT. It's all about nickel and diming. If people knew, and ocmplained, there probably wouldn't be a text charge. But, the moment AT&T drops TXT charging, or other company drops text charging, they'll all do it.

That's just how it works.

Not entirely true. Sprint used to not charge for txt messages separately. It was apart of the Vision plan. And when the VM4500 was first released they still didn't chage for SMS. I remember getting grandfathered into unlimited SMS with my included Vision plan... I was bummed to have to change that when I switched over to a family plan. But it did allow me to hop over to AT&T quite easily...

If it's general enough, cellphone companies follow each other. I forgot when, but, Verizon offered an Unlimited Text Plan (or at least actively advertised it), and next thing you know, ATT is advertising the same thing.

I was sad too when Sprint made me get a new data plan. previously i had unlimited everything, including phone as internet, since i was grandfathered from 2001. now they have a separate fee for phone as modem thats twice as much as my cable modem plan.

I miss the days of when incoming text messages were free, checking your voicemail was free, and that nights/weekends naturally started at 6pm

Those were the good ol' days.

Unlimited texting is only 5 bucks extra on my Sprint bill, that's the only thing really scaring me away from the iPhone is the $20 for unlimited texts. I'm a teenager, I need texts :)

I did the 1500 text messages because I use it a LOT these days.

If I need less, I will go down

But, for right now...an extra $10 just in case isnt too bad.

Text Messaging has exploded in the last year.

So you're paying $15 to get unlimited mobile to mobile txt and 400 to any carrier? After reading your post, I called ATT to inquire and all I could get out of the rep was that it was going to cost me an extra $25 to bump my any carrier txt messages DOWN to 200 and have unlimited mobile to mobile txt. I thought that was the strangest thing ever so I hung up. Maybe I'll give them a call again later after work.

And you paid $150 / month for 50 minutes of talk time.

Complain all you want, but cell phone service is still a lot cheaper than it used to be.
