Text messages backup option missing in iCloud/iPhone.

Hi,

I am trying to back up my old iPhone 6, when I go settings -> iCloud I cannot see option to back up my messages, when I log in to icloud.com I cannot see messages tab either. The iPhone has no sim card in it. Does it affect anything?

Am I missing something obvious?

Messages are backed up in your iCloud or iTunes backup. They are not viewable on iCloud.com. You can only access them when you restore the backup on your device. If you are using a Mac, you can turn on SMS forwarding/iMessages, then you always have a copy of your messages on your computer, but thats about it.
