Long story short, I cannot use the 'e' button on my macbook pro at the moment, so I configured my tilde to be a shortcut for that button. I had to update my laptop for work, so now I am running 10.13.6. With this update, my shortcut now automatically becomes capital (E). This is obviously not very helpful, most of the time I use that letter in the lowercase. The only workaround I've found so far is to replace with ' e' (that is, space e) which works but also slows down my workflow considerably as I have to go remove all spaces. Anyone know what to do?

i dont know the reason why Text Replacement only (and arbitrarily) makes that small case e into a capital E.

the solution you thought of is quite clever.

i tried it on my system.
at first i was using / (backslash) to be replaced with lowercase e. but it always ends up with the replacement made into a capital E as you encountered.
but then i tried lowercase z being replaced with lowercase e. and it works. it stays lowercase.
i dont know the reason why the choice of shortcut originating character makes any difference. possibly its hard coated that way for programmers.

Interesting. Unfortunately, the letter replacement only seems to work on its own and not in a word, ie z changes to e but 'przsznt' stays just like that. Frustrating.
