Looking at replacing my 12Pro with a larger screen due to eyesight.

So I visited the Apple store, and compared my phone to the various models. I have had an 8plus, 7plus, 6SPlus and always set them to zoom display so you get the standard phone display zoomed to the larger screen. Make sense.

Not anymore…

First, default text on the 16 is slightly smaller than on the 12pro, all running iOS 18. That’s weird. (I bought the 12pro thinking that because the 8plus screen is physically similar in size I could have the same zoomed experience yet text was always smaller.)

Next, default text on the 16 Plus is smaller than on the standard 16. Default text is smaller on the Max than all other models!

Choosing Zoomed feature makes the text on the Plus and Max only slightly larger than the default text on the Standard 16. And of course zoomed display on the standard 16 makes text larger than the 16Plus.

Yes you can choose the Text Size feature and enlarge it but that screws up nearly every app, even apple apps. You can choose to enlarge text on websites but that screws up most formatting and often chops text off of the right side of the webpage unless you are on landscape, where the notch/island chop off the left side unless you turn the phone over.

Using accessibility zoom features makes it even worse. Talked to Apple store salesman about it and he said there are complaints about this.

So seems that buying a larger iphone due to failing eyesight is not an option anymore.

Why on earth doesn’t Apple offer a simple “zoomed” option for the Plus/Max to make the OS and apps function as if it was a standard phone? My guess is it’s because of the notch/island…
