Each time I use TextEdit I have to reset the font to my preferred Arial, size 24. Is there a way to make this the default? Also, can Bold be asked for in TextEdit? Thanks!

Thanks to both of you. What about my "Bold" query. Is there any way to make, say, a word or two be in Bold in the midst of a text? (All I could manage was to make the whole text be Bold. Highlighting the words I wanted Bolded didn't help -- still made it all Bold.) Thanks again!

Make sure the document format is Rich Text, not Plain Text.

When the format is Rich Text, the Format > Font menu should provide Bold and Italic styles that can be applied to a selected range of text. In fact, all the styling sub-menus should work when applied to a selection: bigger or smaller text size, fonts, etc.

To learn even more about TextEdit, click the Table of Contents link on the page linked above.
