Hi,
I have unlimited texting with my cell number. Does anyone have advice about messenger apps that can use my cell number? I am looking for something that is easy and convenient. Unfortunately most apps require the user to get a new number.

Thanks for any help.

At the iPhone hacks section.
Yes, why wont you use your messages app to text since you have unlimited texts?
All other messaging apps send and receive by using a user name or email like an instant messenger.
You cannot text using another app unless you JB.
Those type of apps are not allowed in the app store.
Are you coming from an android device?

Could you please change the color of your post? For readers - at least for me - this is a serious deal breaker for reading & helping. Thanks!

BTW, I used TaT for posting my reply in #2. I didn't notice the color at first:

I thank everyone for there reply. "Messages" should be fine. I am switching to an Iphone from Android and I wanted to know what my options were. I thought that there might be some app that might have might have more options over "Messages".

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Simply figuring out how to text/SMS message? Or doing something else?

Interesting. I never used WhatsApp.
Does it use your real number to send and receive texts?
I thought it was like an IM app.

It is an IM app. Your phone number is used for identification with WhatsApp. You can't send anyone a message unless they're on WhatsApp.

Once you give it permission to access your Contacts, it will add those numbers from your Contacts that are registered with WhatsApp to your WhatsApp "Favorites"...which can't be edited otherwise AFAIK.

I see.
So you can only send to others that have WhatsApp installed.
So not really a text messaging app.

Messages is your only option if you want to send true SMS texts with your phone number. WhatsApp does not duplicate this functionality.

If you're talking about sending SMS (text) messages via your phone number through our service provider, that's "messages". This is the app that's built into the iPhone for text messages, just like the "phone" app is for phone calls.

Other alternatives like WhatsApp send Instant Messages (IMs) by wifi or data. It's not quite the same thing.
