Texting in landscape mode

I just realized when I turn my phone into landscape in iMessages, the scribble board thing comes up.
Any way to disable this and just have my keyboard rotate in stead?

If I am playing a game or using an app while in landscape, and I get a text, I would prefer to not have to go into portrait orientation to respond and back to landscape to resume gaming.

If you turn it while in a conversation, you'll see a little keyboard button in the bottom right of the screen. Tap it and the next time you go in to messages in landscape, it'll default to the keyboard.
