Hi,

Anyone here having experience with TextMe? I sent successfully an SMS from my iPad to a friend’s mobile phone but when he replied saying just “OK” to confirm, he was charged a whopping 9 euros!

Is that a rogue application? And if yes, are there any good alternative SMS applications for the iPad?

Thanks!

Well, no one? :(

At least, how could I report to Apple an application robing you like that?

I didn’t think you could get charged without some pop up appearing to ask for confirmation

Ps why not just use the normal ‘Messages’ app on the iPad?

That was an old dumb-phone. No touch-screen magic on it. There is no such a thing like a pop-up in this device. Could be this related with such exorbitant SMS fees?

Can Messages send SMS to plain mobile phones? I did not know that.

Charged 9 euro by whom? That's his phone...he doesn't have the TextMe app...so I don't see how it has anything to do with it.

Perhaps his carrier has some weird restriction on SMS to the numbers that TextMe gives to users. Or perhaps your friend is just trying to scam you for 9 euro!

I don't know. This is why I ask here.

Yes, this is an explanation. However TextMe pretends that there are no hidden fees. They are probably right from their side, but perhaps this statement is very bold and risky when such numbers (from software) are addressed through a random carrier. I don't know if this is of any importance, but my friend is using prepaid cards.

This is not possible. The drop of his credit from 9.35 euros down to 0.35 euros happened in front of my eyes. He received a few seconds afterwards an SMS from his carrier warning him that his credit is below a critical threshold (or something like that). We both could not believe what had just happened.

Yes of course it does
How? I just tried to send a test message to a mobile phone and received an error in red "Not delivered". Of course the recipient received nothing.

No signal maybe? Wrong number maybe? They blocked your number maybe?

I can't speak for every other iPhone user but i've always been able to send messages to non-phone users.

I see. As I said in the beginning I have an iPad, not an iPhone. So, I guess it is normal that I cannot send SMS with Messages.
