TF2 Adding .cfg Trouble

So TF2 is running terrible on my 2011 Macbook Pro and I was recommended by a friend to use Chris' TF2 Configs. http://fakkelbrigade.eu/chris/configs/

I try doing step 2 and saving the file as a .CFG in textedit but it doesn't do it. It still has the .rtf at the end of .cfg. Does anyone know how I can fix this so that it actually saves it as a .cfg?

Click the file, hit command + I.
Under "Name & Extension:" delete the .rtf extension so that .cfg is the new extension and uncheck "Hide extension".
