hey, i have a blackbook, 2.4 ghz, 2 gb ram, thinking of upping to 4gb, anyways:

i wanna get team fortress 2, and i dont know if i should get it for the macbook or for xbox 360.

its $20 for tf2 for pc (macbook with crossover games)

and $30 for orange box for xbox 360

tell me what you guys think is best in regards of technical aspects (probly the 360), but also fun wise and amount of players and stuff.

thanks.

Not 100% sure but isnt TF2 really pushing it to run well on the intel integrated graphics on a Macbook ? I know it does fine on the Macbook Pro but would think it would be too sluggish to be competitive on integrated graphics

I was able to play it on a MacBook with a GMA 950 on lowest settings (though most people probably wouldn't have considered it a playable framerate). Since your MacBook has the X3100 you might be able to play it at a decent framerate... probably on lowest settings though.

I've heard that Valve is slow to update the 360 version and that there is a fair amount of lag on most servers. You also wouldn't be able to use a mouse & keyboard (the preference of most gamers for FPS's, don't know about you).

If you don't mind having it a bit less shiny (and likely below 30fps on large maps), go for the PC version. If you don't think it would run well enough on your MacBook to suit your tastes, go for the 360 version.

If haven't played the rest of the Orange Box, I'd also recommend that you pick it up rather than just TF2. Portal and the Half-Life series are amazing :D

Neither. It won't run on the macbook and I heard it sucks on 360 and PS3 versions. PC version rocks though, play it all the time.

Another neither vote.

The 360 TF2 is poor (the PS3 version is poorer still). There is a massive community of TF2 players, so many custom maps, so many server options (CVAR's) and of course the 130 or so achievements tied in with class updates. Whatever you do don't buy a console version, promise me! PROMISE ME!

I haven't tried but I hear the Macbook doesn't run TF2 so well either. You'll be missing out on the lovely visuals. Plus it might be very slow on a CoreDuo. I'd say buy the retail PC version with the light at the end of the tunnel being a new computer in the future.

It's also very amazing. Ever since I bought it and played the beta last year I haven't really been on any other PC game. *sniff* it's one of the best games there is.

How is it with the latest updates - havent played in about 3-4 months - with the break in WAR beta for a couple weeks I plan on playing it most every night outside of college football games I'll be watching

The updates are great, some of the new weapons are really useful. They're not obviously better either and depends on your own play style. I like to ambush enemies and I'm good at evasion so I use the pyro's Backburner. And the sandvich is just brilliantness. The new game modes fun too, much quicker than other TF2 modes.

Can't believe it's a £10 game and they're still making an awesome product better.

It'll barely run on the MacBook. You can't even consider it.

Plenty of people got it work on their MacBook.

Look at the games section before you speculate.

There is a free 2 day play promo this weekend through steam!

Console versions all have some sort of auto-aim, which makes it pointless.

360 hasn't Auto Aim, but what it does have is horrid, mind boggling lag. I'd definitely go Mac, because you won't go back.

Rhyming ftw. Yeah, I have TF2 on the 360, and when you find a relatively lag-free server, it is quickly ruined by either the host vanishing or someone really laggy joins. If I had to pick, I'd go with the Mac. But out of all versions, take the PC version.

please get it for the macbook. i was able to get my macbook running smoothly but i had to change it to direct x 8 because 9 makes it slow btw it works and i was able kill nooobs

In my experience (albeit with a GMA 950) the game does not like to run above 15 fps with all settings on low in DX8 and console commands turning off bullet decals, brass eject, bump mapping, specular, etc.

15fps... Ouch. I couldn't imagine playing this below 30fps, not with how fast it can get.

umm what? i got tf2 to run 40-50 fps average on my high end white book.

dont get it for 360, gameplay for console is horrible for fps's like tf2.
