Wow thats great! Good luck with the new one. I am sure you will enjoy the upgrade.

I hit that lottery also, just waiting for new MBP to arrive. I will let you know though in case you have not yet started the process, it takes a little while longer than simply ordering like you would do online. You will need to be patient I'm sorry to say. Here is what I experienced; again I am not mad at all, just wish it was a slightly more efficient process, but this is to inform those who have not yet had this experience.

Following discussion regarding repair or replace, we decide to replace, but b/c I read a rumor or two somewhere ;) I asked if I could hold off (this was a month ago and I was on vacation) until wwdc to order the MBP replacement. Well my day arrived a week early, so I emailed the powerbook specialist Tues June 5 at 1PM, he is in texas so it is an hour earlier there. He never returned my email that day so I called at 5PM and placed with him by phone. He said he could not place MBp order until they had tracking numbers for my return powerbook.

I waited until weds at 3:30pm just for fedex to send shipping labels by email, which is a bit annoying and delayed. Thursday at 8am I went to fedex (in Philadelphia, so this is not some tiny city) dropped off the powerbook and got tracking number and contacted appl. However it is not just tracking they want, but rather that it has been shipped, which does not appear on the fedex screen until 6pm. Thus appl specialist is gone. Fri at 7:30 am, which is 7:30pm in friday in shangahi, the order is placed and sits quietly until this morning, where presumably it is being built, but the appl order status only says not yet shipped.

so key points:
1) remember shanghai is 12 hours ahead.
2) the process is a bit lengthy compared to going on the web and ordering.
3) ask for a tracking number or you will have no clue where the order is b.c it does not get listed under your account, but rather the apple specialist.

I hope this helps, feel free to PM me as I might not see this thread.

yea, but can you ever realllllyy be a winner if you have to admit you are from Canada?

just kidding my friend.:D

let's say I hit the apple lotto and they agree to give me a base mbp. If I wanted a more supped up one, is that possible? Would I pay the difference?

yes that is exactly what happens. You get the $1999 version or if edu discount you get it at that price and you pay for any upgrades you want.

Apple has said i will be contacted in 24 hours with a shipping info. Once they see my powerbook as shipped they will ship my new MBP.

Umm, I don't generally call people out on this, but I wrote several detailed paragraphs trying to help you a little with something I am in the middle of right now and sent you a PM to let you know, and you post what is essentially a two sentence generalized version of the info I tried to elaborate on for you so that I could try and help someone else in the same situation not be disappointed or annoyed. That's got to be one of the bigger tool moves I have seen in a few days.

Hmmm.... could anyone elaborate on that?

My 6 month old 24" iMac's screen is sort of 'burned' looking in some areas. I have Applecare. I noticed this about a week ago but thought I'd hold off till I got a Macbook so I can function but think I might hold out for the LED version.
I'm wanting to do this the best way possible. Not sure if they'll replace the screen at the store or replace. The case is pristine and I fear if they replace, I might get some minor scratches along the way, etc.

They usually only replace for 2 senarios

1. The product is udner 30 days old
2. The product shows a history of failur.

I have had my 24" replaced once and repair once. The replacement happened 4 days after i got it and the RAM failed. The repair was for a new Logic board about 6 or 7 months later.

Fly - May I ask how long it was in the shop for each time? And, when you got it back, was it in as good a cosmetic shape as when you dropped it off?

Repair time was very quick usually under 3 days. (Ship monday get back wednesday)

Machine always came back in the same condition i sent it.

No problems what so ever.

How dumb would it be to NOT get Applecare with a new MBP? Coz that's exactly what I'm considering doing...

Not dumb. It would be dumb to pass on getting it within the first year though.
Oh right... well when i said not getting it, i meant not even within the first year. So, you are saying that's not a good move; that i should definitely get it. i would like to get it, it just seems $350 is a bit steep for something i'll probably never need... hmmm....

I"ve never bought applecare and have been fine

ALthough I usually end up selling the PBook / Mbook Pro after 1.5 - 2 yrs anyways

Try looking at eBay. Usually you can find it for a good discount - 30%. I always recommend AppleCare for laptops but you do have a year so wait and see if it becomes troublesome. Problems usually arrive in the first couple of months. If you do buy AppleCare and then resell your MBP before it is up, the remaining time transfers to the new owner so it could (and frequently is) used as a selling point.

Still waiting for Richard at AppleCare to call me back :-( Its been almost a week and his voicemail is full.

Richard Cribbin

And i know someone is checking his voicemail because i just called and i didn't get the "Voicemail is Full" message.

I am gonna leave him another message in about an hour and if he doesn't call back I have some higher up contacts with Apple Care i can call.
