This is a post just to say thanks for the support with my old Mac Pro 1,1. After I thought about it for some time I decided to get an iMac i5 Retina for $2500 and call it a day. I did purchase Lion to upgrade the OS on the M.P. and it will be for sale after next week when the iMac gets here.

Really appreciate the forum here and, as I run a forum myself, it isn't often that I hear I'm doing a good job. I don't need to hear that as I know what I'm doing but that doesn't mean I shouldn't say thanks to all here.

The right choice. Any retina iMac, even the base i5 model, will blow a 2006 Mac Pro right out of the water.

That's what I thought after reading up on both. I really love this old Mac Pro but the iMac, or so I've read in reviews, is almost as fast in some applications and just a bit slower in others.

I also bought another 16 GB's of RAM for it and I should have it by this coming Wednesday. Until then I am still rolling with the old MP and a very filthy keyboard.:apple:

I don't know if it's OK to post my forum URL here but anyone interested can just PM me. It's a photography forum.

The iMac will be FAR faster than the Mac Pro 1,1 in ALL tasks. Especially in single threaded performance tasks.
