Thanks everyone!! Just got my iMac Core i7 27" :)

Just got it at the Meadowhall store in Sheffield UK earlier. The only Apple product that I have previously owned is an iphone which I switched from windows mobile. Loving my iphone so I went one step further.

I have had PC's since the 386 CPU's were around!!

This thing is beautiful. I have already set up spaces and expose, what a joy.

My screen has a very very slight yellow tinge on the test but it took some finding and i have 20/20 vision. Im happy and will not be exchanging. In use everything looks great.

My previous PC is a Core i7 4GHZ, ATI 5870 and a 128Gb SSD. I was thinking of putting the SSD in this machine but after using it today I think I may just sell the SSD and get an ipad to complete my apple computing experience.

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice I have had over the last month as I have been deliberating to change. Anyone thinking of changing from PC, just go for it.

Gonna upgrade my RAM to 8Gb over the next week or so.

BTW this machine is a week 10.

Thanks I dont know whether its just excitement but snow leopard just looks and feels sooo much better than Windows 7.

One question I have is, can I make the mouse tracking faster? I have the bars set to max in mouse preferences but its still alot slower than im used to. The screens so big imstruggling going from one side to the other.

Are you using the Magic Mouse that came in the box?

Personally I hate the Magic Mouse, and prefer a good Logitech mouse for ergonomics and ease of use, so you may consider replacing it.

And you'd be oh-so wrong. A good SSD in this iMac turns it into something magical.

My Viewsonic VP201s from 2004 has an IPS panel, and NO yellow tinge.
This was a relatively cheap display at the time. Much cheaper than Apple's 20" Cinema Display.

It makes no sense to produce LED-displays (like in the current iMacs) if you cannot beat a 6 year-old consumer display at colour uniformity.

The 3-year-old Apple 30" Cinema Display (CCFL backlit) is known for excellent colour- and backlight uniformity.

Every time I see one of these at Best Buy I feel like it's something other-worldly.

It's too bad that the only reason people shopping at Best Buy play with it is because it looks nice. If half of them started thinking of trying the MacOS or even realized that the screen contains the computer...well...there'd be a lot more iMacs out there.

Why does Apple not drive the point that the iMac is an all-in-one?! Do you know how many people would go nuts over that? Instead, they simply think in their mind "the computer is probably under the display table" and brush it off. I love the expressions on some people's faces when I break it to them.

I have the 30" Apple Cinema Display, and it has at most a colour variance of a hundred degrees Kelvin (the limits of the colorimeter) across the display. I could not notice it with my eyes.
I can notice very slight loss of luminance in two corners (with my eyes), but nowhere near as pronounced as the ones I have seen on the new iMacs.

The new iMacs may sell very well. For all I know they may be Apple's fastest selling desktops ever.
But that does not change the fact that the displays being used generally are rubbish compared to what Apple have delivered in the past.

The sooner people start noticing this, and not "roll" with it, the better for everyone who's into using a computer for other things than checking their e-mail.

I still remember when I got the first 24" iMac that came out. It was HUGE and beautiful. It was with a heavy hart I sold it to buy a MBP, but I needed portability.
The 27" must be a beast when you get it up on your desk.

This is incorrect, and a fundamental misunderstanding of LCD technology. I've seen IPS and PVA LCD's In tv's and monitors with no tinge. I'm working on one right now.

I think many people are mistaking acceptable amounts color shifting in at viewing angles for "tinge". ALL monitors have some sort of color shift at viewing angles. IPS displays have far less, shift and a wider viewing angle, but its still present.

Lack of uniformity, and yellow "Tinge" over portions of the screen is a FLAW, not an acceptable deviation. If you have yellow tinge or a lack of uniformity on your iMac, then you're experiencing a problem and should get it replaced.

I am a PC convert like yourself, switched to Mac June 09. The way the mouse felt was a big deal to me. It felt sluggish and not as accurate, a Windows symptom I'm sure.

I stumbled across SteerMouse and this little app did the trick for me! Now the mouse feels exactly like it does in Windows.

I do have the Magic Mouse, but mainly use a Logitech G5 for my mousing needs when the laptop is pretending to be a desktop.

Of the 30 LCD's we have at my company, I don't have a single one with any sort of abnormal blotches of discoloration as seen in the current generation iMacs. And in that 30, there's a mix of high and low end displays, laptops and monitors, Dell's, HP's and Apple's.

The sole reason I won't order the iMacs for my dept. right now is because of the discoloration and uniformity issues in the display. I'd be shocked if it wasn't fully remedied with the next revision. It's just too bad they can't seem to fix it in this model.

You do realize that Apple admits its a monitor flaw? Have you actually looked at some of the picture of the screens. Most of them are not minor. The yellowing is often distracting and does show up in normal day to day use. The fact that in about 75% of these cases the yellowing is only in the bottom/ bottom right portion of the screen tells you that there is a problem that is causing the defect in that region specifically; it is not a normal occurrence.

That said. The original post on here is a really positive one--one that I truly understand from experience.

Yes, the cursor in OS X is a little on the sluggish side compared to Windows. All can be remedied with utilities as previously mentioned. I personally love the magic mouse however there is a physical problem with the mouse that I find a little hard to get over. The design of the feet tend to incur too much drag. Even with the sensitivity kicked up to maximum it still has a strange feel to it.

Also, from the little bit of time that I had to play with my i7 before the hard drive died I was very impressed with the speed. A significant improvement over my 1st generation 24" aluminum iMac.

Can't wait to get mine back

I got used to mine real quick (and I use a Logitech at work, a lot faster on a Windows machine). I'd give the MM a chance, it really is not a bad mouse.

Okay, after reading this I had to experiment a bit.

Smooth wood surface, very smooth. Moves pretty good but feel the drag.

Cloth mouse pad, sluggish but smooth.

Razer mouse pad, fast but you can feel the scratching.

Cheap ass chinese desk writing surface are sort of thing (fuzzy particle board painted over with black paint, no ********) smooth as a baby's bottom. I need to get a surface roughness measurement on this and find a way to fab up a mouse pad...

EDIT: After looking closer it is not painted over it appears to be some sort of contact paper. I need to find out what this stuff is.

I just received my 27" i7 a few days ago, and it has been amazing. I had a C2D 20 incher from 2006 which was a great machine for me, but it got to the point where I had to restart it four to five times a day because it would freeze on me. The i7 is definitely "other-worldly" as someone mentioned. I added 4GB of ram to mine, and I just recently placed it on the wall.

As far as the mmouse is concerned, I am not a fan of it. I like it a lot to be honest, but its just too small for my hand. I think I am going to go with the Logitech Performance MX that I have sitting in the closet, and use the MM with my MB. It would be nice if they came out with a MM XL, which would be slightly bigger for us big hand people lol.

Well had the machine for 24 hours now and its still gggggreat!!

Set up spaces and have been running web browsers, 1080p trailer in one desktop. Trading software and chatroom in another. Warcraft in another and finally iphoto in the last one.

Never stuttered or got upset. Was happily switching between them all with the 1080p avatar trailer running all the time.

Very impressed so far and I have not even put my extra 4gb in yet!!
