After hovering these forums for about 2 months, I finally decided it was time to sell my black MacBook 2.0ghz and upgrade it to a 15" Macbook Pro. My first post! I couldn't wait until January as I am a designer and a student and need a laptop. I ordered 4gb ram from OWC, everything should arrive at about the same time. This is going to be an amazing computer, I can't wait to get it! Is it worth it to get applecare? I plan on holding onto the computer for a few years I think, the technology that is coming out wont benefit me enough to upgrade until a few more cycles, unless something revolutionary comes out. Also, is it worth it for a 7200rpm HD? Thanks again to everyone and please help me on my two questions.

congrats on your buy :)

It wouldn't hurt to get Applecare. You just have to be super anal about keeping it in mint condition, because Apple won't touch it if it has cosmetic damage.

My parents have a MacBook Pro with a 7200 RPM drive in it, and my MacBook has a 5400 RPM drive. They have the same CPU and amount of RAM, and I honestly can't pick the difference. I reckon you'd be better of spending the money on a fast external drive, or more RAM.

Hello, welcome and it's my first post here too. I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.4GHz and I certainly recommend AppleCare Protection Plan on a piece of expensive equipment like this when it's only about 12% of the cost of the machine (even less if you bought it with an Apple Cinema Display).

Welcome to the club. :)
