In 2007-2008 I went from a Razr, to a BB pearl, to a BB Curve.
Then iPhone.
I have had an unlocked, jailbroken 2G (3.1 7C144) running on T-Mobile since December 08.
I love my iPhone almost as much as my MacBook Pro.

But I'm missing out on a few things with this phone.

-No MMS. Every single time i try to get the app from Cydia, or anything from Cydia, my phone bricks. Pineapple screen of doom for hours and hours. I end up in DFU re-doing pwnagetool. ugh
-No 3G, just EDGE. Even if I got a 3G and unlocked it, it won't work on T-Mobile.
-No GPS
-New firmware updates are a crapshoot, since I don't really know enough about how not to brick my phone...i've been lucky so far.
-Not leaving T-Mobile. Been with them for years. I have good coverage, and a great plan that can't be beat. (Family Plan, 4 phones, unlim text, unlim tmo-tmo, unlim internet and data, 2500 mins a month, etc...$205 a month.
-i still suck at typing on the touch screen.

I'm due for a phone upgrade in Feb.
I'm looking at:
the Touch Pro2, but have NO experience with Windows mobile.
MyTouch.
BB Curve 9700

I don't get this post. What's our point ? U won't switch to different carrier because you like your TMobile plan yet you want to switch to droid on verizon. Again, what's the point ?

You need to get a new 3 Gs iPhone on AT&T. Every shortcoming you mentioned will be addressed with that phone on the AT&T network.

Topic title edited from Droid to Android

Sorry for my ignorance. I did not realize Droid is exclusive to Verizon. I thought it was a nickname for the Android OS.
I'm NOT switching to Verizon.

When I was shopping for Family plans, AT&T didn't have nearly as many minutes for the price, that T-Mobile had. Maybe thats changed? I'll check, I guess, but I'm still under contract with T-Mobile.
I have 2500 mins, 1500 of which are mine, and I split the rest of the 1000 between the other 3 phones using the Manage Family Allowances web tool.
Even before the Family plan, my single plan had 1000 mins and unlim data, text, and internet for $85 a month.
AT&T is not that cheap, last time I looked.

I got an unlocked iPhone because T-Mobile had a crappy phone selection at the time.
Now with the new BB Bold, MyTouch and HTC options, I have some nice choices.
I just wish the iPhone would be like RIM and be on multiple carriers. How could that possibly NOT be in their favor, at this point?

The good thing is, when I get a new phone, I can demo it for a couple weeks and return it if I don't like it, and pop my SIM card back in my iPhone.

I wont bash you, bro. I did the same thing as well, as did many others here. One thing is certain, you'll be back. Good luck! ;)

My plan has:

450 minutes
Unlimited Text
Unlimited Data
89.99/mo

I know the minutes are significantly less than your 1000 (and I'm not sure how many you use) but I barely use half of them, and I have over 1000+ rollover minutes. I'm not sure if T-Mobile has rollover minutes.

But yeah, that plan IS more expensive but only by 4.99. If you really love the iPhone, you wouldn't mind that.

That's cheaper than I expected. I use about 1000 mins a month. My cell is my primary phone.
T-Mobile does not have rollover minutes.
I did a mock up family plan on AT&T to see how comparable it is, since I have 4 phones on in my family.
$149 for 3000 mins with 2 phones
$9.99 each for 2 more phones
$30 for iPhone data
$20 iPhone unlim text
$10 for Family unlim text

Looks like $230 before taxes, etc..
Is not as cheap as T-Mobile

Joe, here's a simple question, why not just upgrade to 3GS?

-No MMS. solved
-No 3G. solved
-No GPS solved
-New firmware updates are a crapshoot. solved, bricking is almost impossible unless you really try
-Not leaving T-Mobile. partially solved, 3GS is unlockable, but then you lose the 3G
-i still suck at typing on the touch screen. practice

Btw,

ATT Plan is as follow:
3000 minutes
First Line $140.00
each add'l line $9.99
Unlimited mobile to mobile with rollover.

Messaging unlimited: $30 for the whole family plan

Data poses as some problems, as there isn't a shared plan.

Thank god you made this post.

You could buy a factory unlocked European iPhone 3GS from a site like www.wewantonenow.com this would give you full functionality (3G too) just no visual voice mail. No need to jailbreak unless you want too either.

No model iPhone supports 3G on T-Mobile US (because they run their 3G network on an unusual frequency).

I think the Op has his terms mixed up.

Droid = Android-based phones on Verizon

Android = the OS that the phones he's listed runs on.

Either way:

Yeah, the terms were prly mixed up. And about your sig, I AM a Mac, by birth :p

Yeah, because none of that information is found elsewhere on the web.
Well apparently a lot of people on here see to have no understanding of how to use google since so many simple questions are asked on here every day that could be solved with a simple google search.
:D

I suppose I coulda googled and found the $1300 unlocked 3Gs...
I was assuming I'd have educated iPhone users from here give me some ideas and options, instead of some random knuckleheads opinions on 4500 pages of google searches.
Thanks for clearing that up.

I'll google and see how cheap I can find a 3Gs without a contract and how to unlock it myself.
