So I just got my first Mac! Brand new CD 2ghz MacBook with 512 RAM a week and a half ago. I'm within the 14 days for the return but I have a couple questions about returning it for a C2D version with a 120GB hd and 1gb RAM (same price or close enough):

1. I customized the hard drive to 100GB and ordered a miniDVI-VGA adapter. Does this count as "custom-configured to my specifications" and therefore non-returnable?

2. Is it worth the re-stock fee to return it anyways? The C2D has a 4MB cache which should speed things up a bit, and the extra HD space and ram would be nice. Plus does the C2D run cooler? I thought I had seen that somewhere amongst the MR forums. I wouldn't mind a laptop that cuts my thighs some slack. Also, it has a 6x DL-Superdrive.

What do you think?

Instead of returning it you should ask Apple for a price reduction on your machine, I heard they do that if the prices of your product is cut within a certain number of days after purchase.

Why would he want to do that knowing that the new MacBook's have a C2D chip inside them?

That's a good idea, but I would rather have the C2D if possible. If i can't return it, I'll definitely give that idea a go. Thanks!

I believe as you customized it to include a bigger hard drive this would be considered a CTO order and hence non-returnable

I can't tell where you're from, but if you're from the UK (or Europe in General I imagine), then a custom-configured machine is returnable under the 14 day returns policy. Unfortunately our friends across the Atlantic don't benefit from this though :(

Wow, that's kinda surprising. I am in the USA (California  ) Oh well, my current MacBook is still awesome, I'm so glad I 'switched.' I think I'll just take that 10% restocking fee I was preparing to pay and put it towards some RAM. :)
