The 1 Shirt Project

Hey everybody, I've made this topic before but it got deleted without reasoning or an explanation... so I'm making it again.

My project, The 1 Shirt Project came into my mind about a month ago. I felt the need to help a cause so I came up with this project. So, I made a design that I'd put on a T-Shirt. I'd sell these T-Shirts and donate a large part of the profit to The Water Project, they help supply clean drinking water to parts of Africa. I'm going to sell the shirts for a price around $10 at my school. If I have enough money to buy more shirts, I'll start selling them online.

First, if the thread was put to rest and you do not know why, I would have asked. I would not have made the same thread again.

That aside, the design is decent, the idea is pretty nice, are you attempting to sell the shirts here? If so, that'd be my guess as to why the thread was deleted.

I see. What is the placement of the design? And the font on the second design is difficult to read. Perhaps it is just a bad jpeg, but it is tough.

Yeah... the original size of the images are 11x11 and 11x17 at 300 dpi so scaling them down to 800 pixels in a JPEG completely ruined the type.

Side suggestion: on your website, I would suggest informing potential customers exactly what percentage of your profits go to the charity. I just think it sounds more honest (and I'm not suggesting that you are at all dishonest) to say you're giving X% of the profits to the charity. This gives a greater incentive to buy the T-shirt, which means more money for both you and the charity.

I haven't put the percentage up as I haven't ordered or even found decent shirts at decent prices. But when I do order the shirts, I'll figure out how much is donated. It will be at or more than 75% though.

The blue is light, if you're printing on white shirts. Though I'd like to recommend a unique dyed color of shirt (would increase sales and recognition of the shirts by offering a unique product and increasing visibility), such as a grey or muted golden color, I know money may be limiting... and I guess this is assuming you're going to be doing this the real way, i.e. screen-printing these through a reputable shop in a lot of like 500 or 1000. If you're doing iron-on, I guess you don't have much choice but white. Keep in mind most people won't pay as much for an iron-on shirt.

The concentric circles and clip-art world map *almost* have something to do with water and Africa.. the concentric circles could be ripples of water or something, and the world map obviously because it's part of one world.. but the nautical stars? Knowing their history I just don't think they have anything to do with drinking water or Africa. It looks clip-arty in an uncool way.

The font is cool, but only for like ONE word per sentence. Contrast it with a more legible and less stylized font for all but one word or half of the shirt logo type. Contrasting type styles is important for emphasis and for aesthetic value... right now it looks like you picked one font and overdid it. I think the decayed, stylized type just looks better at bigger point sizes and as a condiment rather than the main dish.

I more liked the concept of the original image #2 (background of the shirt I assume), but the execution did not do it justice. Change it to a thick weight Helvetica, turn down tracking, and closely kern the type by hand to fit it into the African continent silhouette and don't use any of the clip-art crap.

Possibly even consider putting the informative text/Africa silhouette on the front and the logo/"1 shirt project" on the back, in case people might layer the shirt and want the design element more than just your charity logo (selling point being the art on the shirt).

Keep working on it, and it should be cool!

Leave off the globe-y bit and drop the stars. I would smooth the Africa outline to make it more of an icon and thicken the line. That drop plus Africa is great. The text should end up someplace else. On the back or underneath. I would target making a clean logo/icon. Nice start.
