The 3G box on the screen?

So I remember when Apple showed off the 3G and in their commercials for a long time it showed the 3G inside of a box as it's icon like this one

Was that just an idea they had they never put through or what exactly?

for the record I'm on AT&T thats just the only picture I could find that showed that.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i think that was how the 3G icon was designed in older software versions, they've updated it to not have the box around the 3G.

I'm not really fond of the box, personally. It may be the way it was originally designed though.

Yeah, those were the pre-2.1 logos. Jailbreakers can have them back with a Winterboard theme, if they want.

i remember when i upgraded to 2.1 i thought something went wrong because i dint see the box around the 3g
