Think that if Apple were to make a gaming console or handheld, what would it be like, and look like? Use your imagination to create the console of your dreams, would it look like a Mac Mini, Apple TV or something totally different?
What would the controllers be like, wired or wireless?

I just want to see what people come up with here, I can image Apple making a console called iPlay or iGame or something :)

Technically, the iPod touch, as they are marketing it as a game console these days.

Jobs doesn't like or understand games, hence it is extremely unlikely there will be an Apple game console while he's still around (and I'm not saying it would be a good idea businesswise even if Jobs did like games). Apple tolerates gaming, but they hardly encourage it (except, as noted, for portable devices). There is a mountain of evidence for this from the past 25 years or so. Even if there were an Apple game console, I think people would find it too restrictive, just as they do with Apple TV now...another Apple side project that they never really fully committed to. I don't think it would be able to compete with the big Nintendo/Sony/MS triumvirate in an already cutthroat business that absolutely requires a full commitment.

Agreed - a console would be a bad idea. Nintendo/MS/Sony are ripping each other to shreds and margins on the hardware are negative. Apple likes to premium price its hardware. That would be death in the console market.

Now, maybe they might produce some sort of controller that would let you play Bejwelled on your :apple:TV, maybe even produce some software that made your iTouch into a controller, but that is as far as I see them going.

This topic has been beaten to death too many times before. There's no place for an Apple console at the moment. The iPhone/iPod are nice casual platforms but even they are no risk to the DS/PSP.

Microsoft and Sony are yes, Nintendo isn't. No price drops since launch, nothing needed to sweeten the deal and their hardware has always sold at a profit (all Nintendo systems have).

Apple could not make a good console. Short of the fan boys it would never be able to take off because it would be too restrictive. A huge problem with the apple TV is it ONLY works with itunes moves stores which limits it way to much.

Fault the 360 for what you want MS views the 360 as much more than just a gaming system. Yes it primarily that but it also is a DVD player and a media center. You can download movies from Live. Also over the network you can have it stream video and music from you desktop.

Now if I could only get my home network to work right I could watch the shows I have on my computer on my 360
