I can't believe it's finally here. One hour to go. The England team are jogging around and Ashley Giles is practising his bowling action, however I think that is a ploy and I still think Panesar will play.

Will Bell get a ton or a duck? Will Gerry drop Punter on 6, Will Warny get Pietersen? Will McGrath make a mockery of all the ageist gibes?

My prediction is Australia to win the toss and post 590 by lunchtime tomorrow and England to follow on. All over early on day four.

EDIT: Giles is in, so I've fallen at the first hurdle. Fletcher could look mighty silly here.

EDIT II: Pietersen in at 4, that will put more pressure on Cook but it's a bold move for England. England could be in a spot of bother if two of their top three fail.

i cant believe they picked giles.. i hate the guy, think he is rubbish..

panesar is a much better choice, and both nas and beefy just admitted it too (if you were watching sky sports)

let see what happens with the toss

Not a great start for England, but I'd be more surprised if we came out and got 3/50 than I am 0/60 - at least in the first innings

Ah, The Ashes, its playing on my TV upstairs, however there is a ceiling preventing me from viewing it currently.

Some passionate celebrating from Fred. Looks like Harmy will be England's version of Shaggy the way he's bowling.

Big pull from Punter off Harmy, change the field then a big four off the offside. They are going for Harmison.

Giles is surprising everyone with some tight attacking bowling. Mr Cricket is in and he looked pretty angry after Fred's first bouncer.

Channel nine has a new infrared camera that leaves an electromagnetic footprint on the bat where the ball hits it. Which is some neat technology.

Well that was a pretty torrid day in the field for England.

I don't think Giles extra 20 runs are going to mean much now and England could have really done with Panesar, if Gerry drops any catches he's also going to look like a bad move as his few runs are also going to be worth less than any fumbles. Fletcher gambled and lost. The old men, Warny and Pidgeon are going to be happy with a big target to bowl at, there'll be no pressure at all. I think Warne will take 12 wickets by Sunday.

if Australia continue in this fashion for day 2, they may even declare sometime after tea and see if they can quickly take some English wickets..

not looking great for England at the moment, and I have no comments on Harmison's bowling either!

Great! Go Team!

(BTW, someone help me here. What language is this thread in?)

CanadaRAM you philistine ;)

Hopefully today (tomorrow? Later tonight?) will be better. Can't wait till I damn well move out there in a couple of weeks and I can watch the damn innings at a reasonable time of the day!

That's 602 declared with 39 from Stuarr Clark. The track is still excellent for batting even though there's a few big cracks opening up. 22 overs remaining today, and Old Man McGrath is chomping at the bit.

Cook and Strauss in. Cook was looking very nervous yesterday morning and he dropped Stuart Clarke, could go for a duck.

Brett Lee coming in..... much better 1st ball than Harmy.

Poms have to score 403 just to avoid the follow-on as Lee spears one down leg at 150.3km/h.

Nice to see Binger consistently over 150kmh in just his 1st over, once he sorts his rhythm out he'll be really quick.

That's Strauss gone for 12 29/1. They said "don't play the pull shot against McGrath."

EDIT: McGrath just got Cook.

Too Old, Too Slow and Too Good. Yay!

Brett Lee's got a bit of a scraped knee courtesy of Hussey's spikes.

McGrath on a hat-trick.......

Oooooo...... good delivery.

Stuart Clark on now - the human metronome. What an over by McGrath! Good to see he's still got that lethal in-dipper against the left-handers, he's troubled everyone from Atherton to Lara with that one.

Lee seems to be OK, he's off at the moment with what seems to be a fairly neat but large cut above his left knee, probably getting some stitches or something.

Tick tock tick....

Goooooooooneeee!!! The metronome strikes.

Clark makes the bell toll for Ian Bell with a beautiful ball just outside off that Bell managed to tickle through to the keeper for a regulation catch. Poms now 42/3 with Pietersen taking to the crease.

That catch takes Gilchrist past Rodney Marsh in numbers of dismissals with 356.
