My Macbook is only two weeks old and now the right palmrest and trackpads/button are getting discolored. Do you think it's actual discoloration, or just dirt? I tried cleaning it with a bit of mild soap and water, which did nothing (I can't go off to the store right now to find a Mr. Clean eraser).

Unfortunately it's only visible if you look at it from an angle like the picture is taken from. Would Apple still replace it even though it's not really noticeable while looking straight-on?

If Apple were to replace this, could I just ask them to do it in-store? I'm afraid they'll scratch my Macbook up if they take it away.

You might have to tilt your screen to see it properly.

Mmmm, well if that doesn't clean off, and you didn't stain it with anything, and it's still under warranty, I would take it's butt back to the Apple store so fast it would make my Chihuahua's head spin...! Apple seems to have been very good about such issues...

What I've read around here that they do is to replace the top covering that is discolored--an easy fix, though they will probably want to keep it for a few days--Aaarrgg....

I think MacBook owners should just do what the MacBook Pro owners and the PowerBook owners before them did, which is to get a Marware Protection Pack. We have pitting to put up with, and you have discoloration.

Yuch--that fake suede stuff? BLECCHHH!! I suppose it does the job, you're right, but talk about Fred Flintstone'ing an elegant high tech computer... And then there is the practically neon advertising for Marware there too...

NOT an option for moi...!

Yeah, true about the pitting/discoloration. I don't mind discoloration after SOME use, like a few months, but after two weeks? Ridiculous. I've had my Powerbook for some months now and there's no pitting whatsoever.

I guess I'll see how the discoloration progresses, it's not really very noticeable right now. Then I'll see about getting the top case replaced, and getting protection.

I agree about the Marware thing looking tacky (plus it's $30!), I think there's another glossy cover type of thing at bestskinsever.com for around $9, though I'd rather buy from a brick-and-mortar store.

My macbook is almost a year old and I am thinking about sending mine back because of this issue. At first I thought how cool a white laptop would look but it seems Apple failed to test the white covering. I should not have to add a plastic layer to my mac, this makes it look like crud.

Send it back and get return with protection

Send it back and get return with protection..it's so disappointed to having a MB with discoloration problem....The best way is to protect it your self rather than complaining and time wasting. :apple: :apple: :apple:
Check out marware, shieldzone, invisible macmate, microsollution, etc...

in order to get replacement for discoloration issue i have to have applecare?
my macbook is 6 months old

No you don't have to have AppleCare to get the discolouration issue fixed, if it is under the first year.

Some of the MacBook's had this issue, so if you call Apple they will be able to help you.

If it isn't a matter of the "discolouration" problem, and it is just dirt from your body oils, you can use Isoprophyl Alchohol to clean it off, it works great...Just tab some on some paper towel and rub away...

Won't you see the discoloration again even after replacing the MB? I thought this was an inherent problem of the MB white cover?
