Name 5 real alternatives to 6/6+ iPhone
and why

1 - Xperia Z3C, symply the best alternative on the market imo, beautiful design, compactness, waterproof, almost any cons, the best battery life that i ever used

2 - One Plus One / Xiaomi Mi4, these chinese brands, being more and more popular, especially in their own country/continent, they deliver a good compromise between price and performance, not mentioning, they provide good design and quality build overall

3 HTC M7/M8, just for the beauty of this beast

4 Z2/Z3, another Xperia phones, in the rank, premium design and same qualities than their little brother

5 930 Lumia, probably the best Windows Phone for me

EDIT: added poll

Personally, I would say the Galaxy Alpha feels more premium in hand over the Z3 compact (it was why I went with it over the z3 compact), though you do lose the microsd card and it has a smaller battery, the performance wise the exynos variant of the alpha is faster than the snapdragon in the z3 compact,

The galaxy alpha and the note 4 are probably the 6+ competitors.
But the z3C is definitely competing against the iPhone 6.

My choices would be:

Xperia Z3 and Compact (depending on size tastes).

Sony really deserve to be doing better given the quality and durability of their high end hardware IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing a turnaround for Sony in mobile bit they do struggle.

Galaxy Alpha.

Sets a new standard to Samsung design going forward. Sleek looks and better build materials will hopefully be bought to all high end Samsung's going forward and that does look to be the case.

Galaxy Note 4.

Some took the piss out of Samsung when the original note was announced but its proven to be a hugely influential move on other OEMs. The note 4 is the best large screened handset IMO and Samsung have managed to get the featureset in hardware and software just right.

For me, I'd say either the Note, or a Lumia series phablet. I like both and both have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Almost every flagship is a viable alternative to the iPhone.

If I wasn't going to buy an iPhone 6/6+ then I would probably pick the Alpha/Note 4.

I like much about the Xperia Z series--robust, solid feel in hand, waterproof, good camera, expandable storage, excellent battery life, pretty good displays but really didn't enjoy the software Sony skins over Andoid. Offer a GPE version of the Z3/Z3c as they did with the Z Ultra and it would be an easy choice for me. Unfortunately, the OS and user experience is more important to me and as it stands now, I'd choose a Nexus 5/6 or Moto X before anything else.

The 1+1 has been a great phone for me, with amazing battery life, nice screen, and snappy performance. It's pretty much the same size as the 6 Plus. And for being only $299 the OnePlus One is a steal, and does not feel like a cheap generic phone at that price, it feels and operates just like other high end Droid phones of 2014, that cost twice as much.

The HTC One M8 is also a beauty. For a smaller phone the M8 really is great too. HTC hit a homerun on this phone. Just fantastic.

IMO I think both the 1+1 and One M8 are the best two Android phones of 2014.

Sony interface is pretty much same as stock Android
They just applied some of their promoted apps
You cannot reproach Sony behavior
Mobile brands need to make their own interface, Google promote their service within Android
That why i dont like Nexus, yes it would be truly a pure Android experience but Google looks more and more like an evil that will establish their own rules step by step.
Android by Google is becoming to be the next iOS like system
That the main Android mind, open-source, free feel to mod OS at their convenience.
Touchwizz, Sense, its more way different

Too bad 1+1 made a sort of invitation system, i dont like chasing an invitation in order to buy it
HTC One M8 has indeed amazing design but they certainly need more than that (its a bit pricey for what it does provide)
Korean LG (G3) and Samsung (Note) have incredible display quality
Chinese brands have money value
Sony has battery life / also good design and water-proof on their side as well

SGS5.

Great size (not too big, not too small), amazing camera, amazing battery life (plus replaceable), excellent performance (no lag that I've seen since I bought it), great cell reception and GPS performance, lots of accessories, good price right now.

I'm very happy with the SGS5.

In the shop I tried out both the iPhone 6 and the Xperia Z3 Compact.

The iPhone just felt worse, I didn't like the large bezels, it was considerably more expensive, plus I didn't want a phone with 1GB of RAM going into 2015 so I bought the Sony.

Galaxy Alpha screen is abysmal and the battery life is abysmal aswell, it defitnetly does not really contend with the Note 4/M8/6 Plus/ others

Are you talking from first hand experience?? because owning an Alpha I get decent battery life - easily comparable to the iPhone 6, M8 & S5 I have had this year. I posted screenshots in another thread here of my battery life with near 4 hours screen on time, and battery lasting 1 day 16 hours.....

Likewise the screen quality side by side next to my iPhone 6 compares very favourably - just change the display setting to 'basic' and they are near identical colour accuracy wise too. Both offer near identical viewing angles and sharpness to text and such.

that is totally wrong, the Alpha screen reminds me of the S3 screen, which despite bein a "720p" screen, in reality it really isnt and doesnt look as sharp as other 720p displays with RGB Pixel layout instead of Pentile pixel layout, because of the Pen tile effect, the green tinge effect look is back on the alpha and i noticed it instantly and can see pixelation instantly on the Alpha, the 6 screen is noticeably better

red and blue sub pixels on the Alpha are well under 300 PPI and that is where you see dramatic pixelation

and that is weird, tons of reviews and tests show the Alpha not getting more then 3 hours of battery life on screen time

I have no cast on my Alpha, as I say I turn off the colour adjustments Samsung does and using the same wallpaper on both my iPhone 6 and the Alpha the colours are as close to accurate as I could want. I also prefer it without that artificial boosting of saturation anyway.

And yes I have the two side and by side here and opening same article in google newsstand and text and clarity are near identical.

And yes the alpha battery benchmarks I posted from screen capture of my battery stats are in a thread - I think it was the iPhone 6 or S5 thread .......

open up a website that has red/green text/ font, I gurantee you will see pixelation on the Alpha due to Pentile (reason why Note 4 doesnt have this issue is because it is super high resolution despite being pentile, it covers up pentiles effects)
