I heard from a friend that Apple is very reliable (the other is toshiba). I really like the "white" look of the macbook notebook which toshiba doesn't offer. I've been trying to find a good deal with a 2 core duo, at least 1 GB RAM, and at least 80 GB hard drive but of course, I can't find it any where or that it's too expensive. I don't mind spending another $200 on buying RAM.

What do you guys think of Toshiba products? With the same price tag, I can get a 2 core duo, 2 GB RAM, and 120 GB hard drive notebook.

I'm a student and I really need a notebook. Thanks for your help.

Every Tosh laptop I've used, owned, or seen at work has been crap. YMMV.

The MB rocks. Less than $1000 via Apple refurb store. Add on your own RAM, Apple charges too much, anyway.

Cart before the horse, Applebee -- first, what software do you need to run for school?

If you need/want Apple OSX and Mac software, then your decision is made.

If you only need Windows, then you can get it cheaper with PC laptops, albeit with less elegant design and with a range of componet quality from poor to good depending on the cost and the model. You can do Windows on the Mac as well, but it will cost more for the dual OS capability and the superior design of the MacBook.

I can't say anything bad about Toshiba since my VCR has been excellent, but unless I specifically needed a Windows OS, I sure as hell wouldn't be using a Windows based machine.
