One of the conclusions from that thread is that there is no such thing as "best". There are a ton of generic cards that are effectively identical (based on the same NEC chip). There are also two choices of vendor specific OSX drivers (Lacie and Caldigit) and a hacked set of Lacie drivers as well. Pick your poison largely based on what you want to connect to it. I think all the info you need is in that thread.

If you have something in mind you know you want to connect via USB 3 that might make more specific recommendations easier.
