Hello All,
To start the story, at the end of July I noticed a Mac pro sitting on the show room floor out of box. 1649$. (at Fry's, Sunnyvale CA) I had most of the cash but waited. I've gone back 4 times since I first found it, but never had all the funds. Today I went to visit and purchase and was prepared to pay the 1649$, the price had dropped to 1319.40$, paid cash out the door with a new keyboard and MM... 1429$. Very Very happy. Found out that it was a customer return that didnt make it back to Apple. (found vacation pictures, emails, iTunes lib. (i'm really surprised the first owners left it all on the drive) Boot from ML thumb drive, erase HD, reload ML. Now I have a new Mac Pro, 5.1. it's the base model, a quad 2.8, a whopping 3GB, 1 TB HD, Radion 5770 1GB, April build. For the price I paid I will have lots of fund for upgrades after a refurbed ACD 27" to sit next to the wifes iMac next month.

Nice find! Enjoy, I own a recently purchased a used 8 core 2.4 and love it. I installed a 512 ssd, and am about to upgrade the ram to 32gig, a wonderful mac that I'll have for years to come...so enjoy yours, they are great machines.

scoring those vacation pics without having to pay air fare was a deal :D
They family didnt look at all like mine, cant use em! After the ACD and RAM I will be on the look out for a W3590. Then SSD upgrades, I eventually want a system that will be an able gamer and the "HTPC media processing center" that I've allways dreamed of.

edit. I need the W3690 not the W3590. .brain fart.

Multi core systems aren't particularly suited for gaming as most games can't take advantage of multiple cores. You can run Plex and XBMC though and have a nice little HTPC.

Great deal! To top it off, get a Xeon W3690 6-core 3.33GHz, swap it in and sell the original CPU. :)

Im not looking for a screaming gamer, just something to run oldish Windows games. I and the family would prefer to stay in the Apple ecosystem so we have Atv's in all bedrooms. no real need for PLEX or XMBC;)
With an upgrade to the W3960, with as much RAM as I can afford. It will encode BD just fine.

For the Silicon Valley CA MR community

In the Sunnyvale Fry,s, they have one of each of the base MacPro's both the 4 core and the 8 core. The 4 core for nearly, very nearly price I paid last Friday. The 8 core is below refurb price. Both look like out of box.
Just a note of opportunity for the Sililcon Valley MR community.
