I remember that refurbished X models weren’t too warmly received here, seen as overpriced and inferior to the XR. In spite of this, I actually (downgraded?) from XR to refurbished X, and I’d recommend it.

I had an 8+ which I hated. It was too big (despite being 6’3, I’ve realized I hate oversized phones). It also had a good amount of connectivity/reception issues which I probably should have dealt with, but instead just accepted for a year of ownership. This was before I was a member of this forum, and I didn’t realize that when your phone isn’t working right you should DO something about it.

I then upgraded to an XR, thinking it’d be a good fit for me. But it still felt too bulky (oddly even more so than the 8+), had connectivity issues (which admittedly were mostly resolved with updates), and the WiFi just never seemed as quick as it should be.

I was afraid of the XS due to (possibly resolved?) reception issues discussed on here, so I sold the XR and decided to try a refurb X. Couldn’t be happier. Silky smooth performance, perfect size/weight, excellent reception (unlocked Qualcomm model on Verizon), speedy WiFi. The tilt color shift is a bit jarring as I’ve never had an OLED screen before, but hopefully I adjust to it. At this point I’d say I definitely prefer the XR screen, but otherwise I think a refurbished X could be a really good buy for a lot of people.

If the X is refurbished from Apple, they’re very stringent with their testing, it receives a new display, battery, etc. But it’s a very suitable device and will be for years to come.
