iPhone 12 Mini IOS 18.1
I plugged in my iPhone to my iMac 13.7.1 and it said I needed an update to read my iPhone. I updated it and go this message
The contents of the iPhone “iPhone” could not be read. Click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings.

I unplugged the iPhone. Is this a real update or a virus?

Any ideas?

Thanx, Nick

The update ist genuine, it is installed on older Mac systems to read newer iPhones.
The update is sometimes tedious, takes a long time and can fail. It did once here. Restart and try it again. Your phone is fine and does not need to be restored.

I restarted my iPhone without success. Suggestions?

I can use a program like iExplorer.

It was about the restart of the Mac. I had this problem when I once interrupted the installation of that helper program.
