Someone had the neat idea to make a program that turns your screen white so you can use the iPhone as a flashlight.

It costs $0.99. Ok, that's not too much. I could maybe see buying that.

Except someone else has already put up the same thing for free.

Oops.

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out over the next month. There will probably be lots of crushed dreams as people find out exactly what is and isn't worth money on the iPhone apps store. Should be fun to watch. :D

(And yes, I know the $0.99 flashlight program has a few more features right now...how long do you think it will take the free one to add them? That doesn't change the point here.)

I think about making an app called smile.

It will be 99.99 and show you a picture of me smiling with your $100.

Two suckers and I've made money.

Yeah, there's a range of Sudoku apps ranging from 99c to $9.99

Good catch.

It's woth pointing out that I DON'T think everything will go towards "free."

I havne't looked at these yet, but I'd bet that the $0.99 aren't as good as the $4.99 ones, but above that it might be harder to tell the difference.

Meaning, eventually there will be one version for $4.99 that most people buy ('cause it's good) and one version for $0.99 that some people buy ('cause they're cheap.)

So even though it will narrow down to 2 or 3 in the end, I don't think the cheapest one will always win. Look at the iPhone itself. It's not the cheapest phone, but it sure out-sells a lot that cost less!

I noticed the torch thing too.. Im amazed anyone would have the audacity to charge anything at all for it. Im pretty sure I counted 3 versions too. Just 1 of which was free.

I actually thought there was an App called "The Crushing Force of Capitalism". That would've been an AWESOME Corporate Simulation.
