The dreaded Kernel Panic

Ok for the first time last week I had a Kernel Panic, and after reading previous posts it didn't seem to much to worry about on it's own however I have just had another one!

It's a 24 inch iMac, both times they occured when I was waking it from sleep I think, or pretty much just after. The first one might have been a standby state unsure now. It happened before I install bootcamp, however had installed some software just beofre they started however I don't think it was running at the time.

Hmm, one of the updates helped waking from sleep issues on the iMac's I think - do you have all the latest updates installed, including the firmware update(s)?

You might also want to repair your permissions via Disk Utility.

Hi, thanks for the speedy reply!

After the last kernel panic software update booted up and there was two java updates and security one I think.

I havn't manually updated any hardware as I am aware since I got the mac back in september or october. Is there a special page for this? Though I o recall a while ago a firmware update for my ibooks USB I think and that came up automatically.

I think I have the latest boot rom thing after a google search, my system profiler says: IM61.0093.B01

Hmm. Well, that doesn't eliminate RAM as the potential source, but does make it a somewhat less likely culprit. At this point, since the kernel panics don't seem to be chronic, I would check the drive for errors with fsck in Single User Mode, or with Disk Utility by restarting on the restore disc.

Have you changed anything to do with Airport?

Do you run maintenance scripts?

The Ram seems unlikly I think I have had the computer for a while now I got it in September or October I think and only started last weekend. Will try the disk utilty thing.

Turned off at the moment as I use ethernet

I have Mac Janitor thing which I don't run much, did run it today though!
