The Fan is Getting on my Nerves..

When I first got it it was dead silent, I think it was because of the cold weather..

But now the fan is always on even if I'm not even touching it...

Right now for example, I was doing my work, and I had the MBA next to me that had been on for like 5 mins, with a JUST a word document open. I was not touching the MBA, and I heard the fan slooowly increase in speed until it got to full speed and started sounding like a hoover vacuum. I left it like that for like 15 min thinking that maybe it would cool down but it didn't!

I experience this problem all the time lately...
Im sitting on my bed reading, and my MBA is on my desk with absolutely no programs running and the fan starts to kick in...

Seriously... Apple couldn't have done it worse... luckily until now I've had no core shut downs... but what if they start??

Yes the design is amazing, it is very thin, light, powerful enough to do every day stuff, you can carry it around, it does everything I want... but the stupid hoover-vacuum sounding fan completely ruins the experience!

I really wish I still had my 14 day trial and could give it back, too bad that I bought this piece of cr*p as soon as it came out.

I feel like selling it and buying a normal mbp.

PD: I never had any problems with my pb17... i really wish my friend had not dropped it to the floor :'(

You probably have a run away process,

Open Activity Monitor,
show All Processes
sort by % CPU usage and see if there is anything using more than 10% CPU (or a reasonable amount of CPU)

Typically it's poor flash ads on web sites.

Known fault? Everyone experiences the same problem. I didn't experience it with mine until the weather got warmer. Now I know why other people get pissed off.

And I know Lots of threads exist about that. But I dont give a f*. I can make my point if I want to.

To those who say he would be duping the buyer, aren't you all the same ones who are saying that (i) this is how the MBA is designed and (ii) what a great product this is? His machine is just like all the rest. Doesn't mean he should have to live with it. He is no more devious than Apple who foisted this turkey on us all in the first place.

Mine was going crazy, staying stuck on 6,500 rpm. still worked ok, just was killing the battery.

I removed flip4mac and it feels like something is wrong it is so much better. It is at 2,500 rpm much more of the time now. Bummer, cause i like Flip4mac, but not a big deal.

I don't use Flip4Mac - this is probably for Windows Media Support - which I do not support. I use VLC for all other media.

As for Flash, I refrain from using the Flash Player as well. I have a YouTube bookmarklet to use the QT Player instead - if not, another bookmarklet to just download the MP4 version for viewing using VLC.

Hmm, mine acts nothing like the OP's. I live in 80-ish degree weather and I have to work to get my Air to run fans into the audible range. I can do it, but have yet to do so under normal use (normal for me, anyhow). Just running Word or other simple activities as mentioned by the OP are certain to have the fans under 2600 RPM.

So, instead of condemning the design, let's recognize that the design is ok, but sensitive to build quality and this first generation has been hit or miss on that point. Sounds like the OP's is a miss.

Maybe he should just have it looked at.

ill pipe in and say ive never experienced any core shutdowns, and the fans only kick in when the system is under some intenstive applications or using skype.

never has it gotten increased fan speed on its own and never has it not died down to 2500.
